The cool thing about indie filmmaking is that most of the time you end up doing everything yourself. Well, it can be cool to a point. But one of the parts I find as awesome is definitely shopping around for props. It can be disappointing when you don't find anything but so rewarding when you do. Especially for a movie like "Zombie Rest Home", I love vintage things and what better way to shop around for old things than for a movie about senior citizens :)
Also, our location fell through a couple of days ago (what is it with Austin and wanting to get paid for everything?) so our search for a new location has commenced in full force. Went to an actual retirement community on reference by a crew member. Man the place was beautiful and they were all for it... but the place we too beautiful. Gorgeous siding, high ceilings, and carpet... damn you carpet. Statefield Rest Home is supposed to be clinical and not cozy. This place was the Might come back to Austin on Monday to look around some more.

So I had a rather boring Independence Day. No one seems to care anymore that today marks another year of our freedom (give or take cause of laws - but at least we're not being dictated right?). Where's the fireworks and the bar b ques? I wanted a Fourth of July hotdog!!!!
Anyways, I guess back to business. Today we had our first round of crew interviews at an awesome place called Summermoon Wood Fired Coffee. Now neither Victor, Christina, or I are fans of coffee (love the smell, but what's with the taste?) but we fell in love with their awesome frozen hot chocolate. It was AMAZING!!! Oh we also met some really awesome people that we hope will do us the favor of working on our "Zombie Rest Home" trailer. Also did some location scouting while we were there. On the advise of one of our interviewees, we looked up a place called the Moon Units. The place gave us so many film ideas but it was definitely not "Zombie Rest Home" material. So we bid it goodbye for the time being and left. Soon though, we shall find an excuse to film in you.... soon.... |
